Unlucky 7: Lightning eliminate Maple Leafs from NHL playoffs

Posted on May 15, 2022 by

Nick Paul picked the most opportune time to score his first two goals of the NHL playoffs, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of their first round series on Saturday night.

Paul opened the scoring with just under two minutes left in the first period and his unassisted goal at 16:32 of the second stood up as the game winner as the Lightning moved on to continue their pursuit of a third consecutive Stanley Cup title.

Morgan Rielly had the lone goal for the Maple Leafs, who have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs since 2004.

Toronto falls to 0-9 in elimination games over the last five playoffs.
